MOVEMENT - Tim Knowles

Tim Knowles willow drawing
Tim Knowles uses highly unexpected techniques to create his drawings. By attaching drawing implements to the branches of trees and placing a paper canvas within radius of the branches, his art is invented by the wind and the individual signature of each tree; making each work stunningly unique. Different tree's have different characteristics and qualities, making the work vary accordingly. Movement is a key element within his work, without the movement of the wind  and input from the local weather his pieces would lack the energy that makes them so special. I love how simple and organic these works are, each gesture is very naturally poetic and very individual.

In the picture to the right, Tim attaches 50 ink pens to the tips of the willow branches, to accompany the 4 horizontal prints that are made beneath the tree, the whole process is also filmed and put on a 6 minute looped video that is shown in his exhibitions.
